Results: Nursing Best Practice Guidelines Competition
(Ref. No. CFNREU 100)
CNF, in collaboration with RNAO and University of Ottawa, sent out a request in May 2005 for full research proposals to conduct research on the uptake and impact of the RNAO nursing best practice guidelines across the country.
CNF’s Nursing Care Partnership program (funded by a grant from the Canadian Health Services Research Foundation) made this initiative possible.
Congratulations to the following applicants, who will be receiving funding from CNF and the funding partner:

2007 Request for Applications: Caregiving and Research Grants Program
Goal of the program
This Program is intended to support multidisciplinary research within caregiving and dementia involving individuals with Alzheimer Disease or their caregivers. The Program seeks to increase the consideration and application of nursing practice issues and the involvement of the nursing profession within research aimed at improving the quality of clinical care in the area of dementia. The Program also aims to promote the consideration and awareness of sex and gender influences in those areas.
The range of acceptable projects includes, but is not restricted to, the following:
- needs assessment
- support systems
- service and care delivery
- caregiver burden
Eligibility
The principal applicant must be based in, or be formally affiliated with (but not necessarily receive salary support from) a Canadian university or affiliated institution, and meet the eligibility criteria outlined in ASC's Application Guidelines and in the CIHR Grants and Awards Guide.
The proposed research must address the goal of the Program overall and should indicate explicitly how the proposed studies meet the specific objectives of the Partner agency, for example:
- the potential impact of the research on nursing practice and the inclusion of a qualified nurse on the research team
- the relevance of the research to Alzheimer Disease, dementia, cognitive impairments in aging and caregiving
- the significance of sex and gender influences in the research design. IGH will target its funding accordingly.
Funds available
The Program offers grants worth up to $100,000 per year for a maximum duration of two years. Funds may be used for the direct costs of research (e.g., materials and supplies, research/technical assistants, research-related travel). The Program allows stipends for research trainees (e.g., graduate students, post-doctoral fellows). The conditions for purchasing equipment conform to those of ASC's Regular Research Grants Program and are outlined in ASC's Application Guidelines. Funds may not be used as salary for the grantees or for indirect costs of research (e.g., library, heat and light, office furniture, overhead, administrative charges and fees). The application must provide a detailed justification of all costs.
Applications must be submitted by October 31, 2006
